Spartanburg Water Conservation Tips

Ice House America

To better serve its customers and all citizens of the Spartanburg region, Spartanburg Water now delivers its product in a new form – frozen. The ice business is a natural extension of the role of water provider to the region. “Ice Houses” provide customers with bagged ice using the same clean, fresh water that comes from your water tap.

Ice House AmericaEach ice house uses automation to produce, store, bag, and dispense ice. All surfaces that come in contact with the ice are made of 100% food grade stainless steel. Site maintenance (cleaning around the area and restocking bags) usually occurs twice a week and the dispensing equipment is cleaned weekly. The ice is tested on a regular basis to ensure it meets food grade quality.

Ice is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Much like an ATM machine, customers insert cash to use the machines, making access to ice quite convenient for recreational, household, and even emergency use.

A plus that separates Spartanburg Water’s “Ice Houses” from regular ice sources is the ice is made on site. It is not shipped by transport, eliminating the need to burn more fuel or put more trucks on the road for delivery.

Another added benefit to Spartanburg Water’s “Ice Houses” is the price. Ice, at most locations, is usually sold for around $2.00 to $3.00 for an 8 to 10 pound bag. Spartanburg Water offers a 16-pound bag or 20-pound bulk ice for $1.50. At the Pacolet location a 10-pound bag is available for only $1.00. (Bulk ice is not available at the Pacolet and Asheville Hwy locations). At roughly half the price of conventional ice sources, customers are able to save money and have high quality ice.

An added value at all locations is the availability of “fresh filtered water”. Each machine is equipped with a water dispensing station which is regularly serviced by licensed operators employed by Spartanburg Water. The customer brings their own container and purchases 1 gallon of water for $.25 or 5 gallons for $1.00.

Spartanburg Water now has 9 locations and has plans of installing 3 more in the near future.
